Every two years for the last 16 years the Doll Collectors Club of East Hawaii has presented a holiday show at Wailoa Center in Hilo. This year’s show is called Magic Windows and is reminiscent of the days when our parents took us downtown to see the big window displays in the department stores. Since many children of the Big Island are not familiar with this tradition we decided to see if we could recreate this feeling of wonder for the children and nostalgia for the adults. So in collaboration with the Minihunes Miniature Club and the East Hawaii Train Group we are presenting a show called Magic Windows which opens Friday, Dec. 7th and runs through the 27th. We chose storybooks, fairy tales and nursery rhymes as our main inspiration for the displays but the theme is still Christmas and Winter Holidays. Some of the stories represented by the Doll Collectors Club are: Cinderella, Snow White, The Frog Prince, Goldilocks, The Night Before Christmas, Princess and the Pea, The Gingerbread Man, The Nativity Story, The Little Match Girl, Jack Sprat and The House That Jack Built. The Minihunes, a club of dollhouse miniaturists working mainly in 1 inch scale, will present; Humpty Dumpty, Mary Mary Quite Contrary, Little Red Riding Hood, Arabian Nights, The Princess and the Pea (mini), The Nightmare Before Christmas, My Dear Land of Storybooks, The Snow Maiden, A Tale of Two Cities, The Little Mermaid and The Night Before Christmas (mini). The Polar Express is being presented by the East Hawaii Train Group. Wailoa Center will be open from 8:30 am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday except Wednesday mornings when it will be closed. It will also be closed Christmas Day. The public is welcome to attend the opening on Friday, Dec. 7th from 5pm to 7pm. Light refreshments will be available along with some surprise live entertainment. For more informantion please call Sher Glass at 967-8553. Miniature Worlds an exhibition of miniature worlds of fantasy and reality was presented to the public in 2005 by the Doll Collectors Club of East Hawaii and the East Hawaii Train Group.
